CHIN 3050 & 3060 Chinese Conversation & Composition I & II: In these classes there was a lot of practice in the spoken language emphasizing vocabulary, word-combinations, pronunciation, and comprehension. We learned practical language skills and intercultural communication by studying various topics. CHIN 3060 allowed for more practice with formally written essays.

CHIN 3160 & 4160 Chinese & International Trade I & II: I took these courses while abroad in China at the Dalian University of Technology. In these courses cross-cultural references were provided for comparative analyses of American and Chinese business behavior. Classes were conducted in Chinese.

CHIN 3980 Directed Reading: This course was taken while abroad in Beijing, China at Minzu University. This directed reading course was taught in Chinese and focused on vocabulary acquisition relevant to life in China, society, and culture.

CHIN 4990 Selected Topics in Chinese Culture: This course was taken while abroad in Beijing at Minzu University and was primarily focused on Chinese philosophy. Our readings and discussions were conducted in English and we compared many of the Chinese philosophical schools and examined their interpretations and how they have served as a basis for a national philosophy.

CHIN 4010 Pre-Modern Chinese Literature: In this class we focused on Chinese literature from 8th century B.C.E. to 19th century C.E., including poetry, prose, drama, fiction, and literary criticism. This course allowed me to gain further insight into traditional Chinese culture and familiarity with Chinese motifs and metaphors.
